He's been Georgia's president and a governor in the Ukraine. Now he's technically stateless: Mikheil Saakashvili may have allegations of criminal activity hanging over his head, but he's determined to save Ukraine. Is he the right man for the job?

Is it an interview or interrogation? Why do you, Sebastian, need an other person to talk to at all? I think you can just read your notes to the wall with the same effect, since you don't seem to point much attention to answers for your questions.

    2. dvoalex

Interviewer sucks, he is interrupting all the time.

    3. Vitéz Beverneky

How can Georgians elect that megalomaniac peasant Ivanishvili over Saakashvili? I know Misha has many flaws, but I think you can't even mention the two on the same page.

    4. otar beridze

      tim sebastian is brilliant.

He''s a national Hero, 95% of population supports him and his war against Putin, but Putin's oligarch Boris expelled him out of the country, but now he's returning.

    15. Marina Shengelia

      Saakashvili my Prezident!

    16. Nikholoz Qartveliani

Saakashvili and his family in Georgia were corrupted and big liars. He is a Bankrupt politician.

      1. David Baz

        How and Where???)))

    17. Tigran Sargsyan

This is the second interview I watch with this host, and it feels like he wants a monologue, not an interview. Very rude and aggressive host, constantly keeps interrupting. I don't understand why they keep him on DW.

    18. leland grover

Why is this geezer interviewer being so aggressive really?

    19. Лолита Мальдивишна

Excellent interview, especially in english (original). Thanks a lot DW, thanks a lot Tim, thanks a lot Mikhail.

    24. Marius P

Man shut the f..ck up and let the the other bloody answer your question Jeezz man

    25. AJ AJ

Lots of interruptions of Saakasvili by Sebastian was a refusal to accept B-S as an answer to straight forward questions. Good job in preparing facts for this interview. I call Tim Sebastian to invite Vladimir Putin to similar interview!

    26. Raymon Kravchenko

Tim Sebastian, you are a clueless, manners-void ethics-void baseless, paltry provocateur and clueless layman!!! Typical Stalinist communist methods of inquest. Your weirdo methods do tell everything about you!!! You are a pathetic pillory for all the journalist world. Who are you sideline jobbing for? Who pays you for harbouring indictments? An outright soldout profiteer Tim Sebastian been hired to squelch the honest and renowned reformer and politician with railing accusations? You got dumped into your own funkhole you tried to ditch Mr. Saakashvili in. Deutsche Welle has got a filthy taint on its face because of stumblebums like Sebastian!!! On the other hand, coherent and lucidly skilful responses of Michael Saakashvili to these crude insolent unprofessional inquest does display with immaculate legibility how masterfully professional and dexterously experienced and skilful scholar and politician Mr. Saakashvili is! Three cheers to Michael Saakashvili. An augmenting torrent of applause to Mr. Saakashvili. And, quite the impeccable opposite, a reprehensible gust of pillory to Tim Sebastian. I wonder how does the DW Company still retain this sore-thumb correspondent within its staff ranks? For these dreadfully abhorrent weirdo stunts Mr. Sebastian should have been disqualified long ago, had his professional licence revoked, and sent to clean the mess for life somewhere in a rural area. Let Mr. Sebastian try indicting Putin like this. I wonder what kind of concrete he would be smashed in in few minutes... oh yes, but again , there is a saying, wolf doesn't eat wolf

    27. william beck

Saakashvilli is a troublemaker wherever he is and they will kick him out of Poland as well. The man is delusional.

      1. level infinite

hehe.. yap.. you are right man.. i see so many comments here from different countries. and they want mihuila as president.. should be nice that he became president of their country.. and in few months we'll see what they coment.. 😁😁

    28. Feyg Aeckaunt

      1. DW News

Feyg Aeckaunt, please use the language of the channel, thank you. - ws

    29. Archil Nikolaishvili

These are questions to him, which Georgians hear for the first time.

    30. gerasym

      horrible INTERVIEWER!

    31. elackpucko123

Tim Sebastian should be fired due to failing to stay (or even be from the very beginning) unbaised. Terrible interview, let the man speak, jesus f***ing christ.

      1. eatemad fanaee

In Iran in these 15 years USD went up from 1000 toman to 14000 toman :)) can you imagine that?! that's like a joke and at the same time its no fun in reality I prefer the whole nation to be wiretapped but we can get rid of this corrupted system by the way we also are under wiretapping -_- anyway...thank you for your informative and open eyeing reply

      2. Ramaz Kutateladze

For me and and the majority of Georgians that was not a trade-off..

      3. Ramaz Kutateladze

@eatemad fanaee Up until 1998 Mercedes was a solid, reliable and durable car. For 20 years this reputation mercedes built up, sells it`s vehicles. Saakashvili`s image outside of his country is very similar to this story about mercedes. The little good he did what every leader is obliged to do and pledges to do for his country on the inauguration.. BUT, you might not know about the prison scandal where prisoners got raped, beaten to death and humiliated by prison personnel (i.e. the state) and not by other inmates, government racketeering of small business in favor of big business was his style of governance, illegal wiretapping was an ordinary routine in his 9 year rule, people, based on illegal wiretapping, without any warrant of a court, were subjected to man slaughtering in the streets, by the police.. Made-up charges against those who were anti-saakashvili followed by torturing and humiliation in prisons.. 96% arrest rate (!) no presumption of innocence, controlled media and a significant portion of a state budget filled up from plea-bargain deals, Taxpayers money spent on propagating the social projects that were had to be implemented as a government obligation anyways.. and as a counterweight we the people of Georgia had newly paved roads, 24/7 electricity and repainted facades of old buildings with flaws.. ahh and USD cheaper by 1GEL, which amounts to 35 cents now opposed to 60~65 cents...

      4. eatemad fanaee

@Ramaz Kutateladze he saved Georgia from corruption, didn't he? check this out: www.transparency.org/research/cpi/overview and by means fighting against corruption, Georgia could build up its economy why you are so mad about him? I don't mean that you are wrong or anything like that, but I'm just curious that why so many Georgian not even love him but by contrary it seems they hate him!!

      5. Raymon Kravchenko

Ramaz Kutateladze. You are wrong to the core. I don't want to insult you, mate, but you sound like a hired kremlin mouthpiece. Hope you will cogitate quietly and soundly, and come to a legible and reasonable conclusion

    32. Dron008

I am from Odessa. He simply lies about his reforms in Odessa. All he did he destroyed facade of beautiful seaport building trying to create custom zone inside it. He even built totally crazy brick wall right on the marble cell inside. He didn't build the road, it was done after him and it was just an ordinary road which had being repaired before Nazzi government captured Ukraine in 2014. He didn't introduce new Police, it was done independently of him, he didn't do anything to stop huge corruption in Odessa's custom. All he did was taking part in many conflicts and being a populist. For example he destroyed one wall in sea beach (due to corruption many beaches are sold and unreachable for usual people. There are private buildings in spite of the fact there are laws against it. So he just destroyed one wall with a lot of media and that's all. Many others are still there. He is a populist and almost as bad as Poroshenko who kills Donbass people including children.

    33. Nick Gary

ALL FORGOT WHAT HE DID IN SOUTH OSSETIA IN 2008????....UNBELIEVABLE...

      1. Dimitri Kasradze

Try to defend his country maybe?

      2. DW News

Please don't shout! Your point will come across just as well in lower case. www.dw.com/en/dws-netiquette-policy/a-5300954 /mw

    34. Luka Kvaratskhelia

      23:30 says it all

    35. SASHA Savage

      seems like a nice guy.

      1. Dron008

You bought it! That's why he is sometimes so popular.

    36. tenellifranco

Sebastian is obviously taking very prejudiced point of view, I'm feeling that he is doing it on behalf of orders of Putin.

      1. Larysa Perry

Я так же подумала, что ему заплатили...Однако, это не уронит имя реформатора.

      2. tenellifranco

give me a break, will you.Orders of Poroshenko? You are a conspiracy theory lover my friend :)

      3. David Bek

Actually he is following of orders of "Chocolate King" Poroshenko.

      4. tenellifranco

Saakashvili answered all the questions very clearly, except may be on Gvirgvliani. When a journalist asking only a negative questions like a prosecutor that's not a journalism is it? Would you like yourself to be interviewed by this guy publicly? Misha has guts and he reformed a failed country that's his greatest achievement, did he have mistakes, sure

      5. Tigran Galstyan

bla bla bla, you are just talking like Saakashvili, hi is doing the same, he accuse everyone without proving it

    37. Antonio Ribeiro

In 2008 you ate neckties and now what you eat to be so fat.

    38. ekaterine asatiani

As someone who has directly experienced his “presidency” (more of a dictatorship I would call), I am extremely glad that he is being exposed with no mercy whatsoever. Good job to the interviewer who remains factual and impartial unlike the biased Georgian journalists who never managed to ask him these questions.

    39. ww2875

DW was well paid , obviously by the" Special Interests" to humiliate the "Interrogated"... Western audience is being spoonfeeded Fake News unrestrained here. Provided all Post Soviet East is just Pain in the A...

    40. livladich

The questions of journalist DW Tim Sebastian very clearly position Saakashvili as a man of self-centered, careerist and bershee. The status of a Western European journalist restrained Miho from insolent attacks and accusations of bias. From the interview it became clear that Miho absolutely can not analyze the economic situation in Ukraine, does not seek compromises in solving complex political problems, is unable to conduct a normal dialogue, uncritically accuses his opponents, uses his slogans in his lengthy speeches to call all those who disagree with him enemies. Most of his accusations are unproven and not one European court will not accept them for consideration. His spontaneous actions and statements he does not cause trust. Ungrounded accusations and slander are his main "weapons." Is such a person can normally run the country or carry out some kind of reforms? Georgia showed that Miho can not be an effective manager when, by his actions in 2008, he put the country on the brink of disaster. Even the European Union has prepared a report that the initiator of the invasion in 2008 was Georgia. And this inadequate person wants to become president of Ukraine, speaking about the support of 34% of the population. Complete nonsense and bullshit.

    41. Konstantin Kandelaki

thanks for showing his real face and exposing him ! He was number one enemy of his people.

      1. Nice BOI

        Konstantin Kandelaki who?

    42. Dimitri Goguadze

How much money got that reporter from RF for this "interview" ? It would be good for everybody if such people like that reporter would not exist. for everybody who is not murder or cryminal . Saakashwili We know how good you are . Thank you for your honesty and courage . You are a first man of new Era

      1. Raymon Kravchenko

Yes, such sods like him should be deported to the Guantanamo prison camp. Three cheers to Mr. Saakashvili who had so masterfully avoided every jinx and trap of that paid communist profiteer! Saakashvili is a man of integrity and honour

      2. tazo Kakabadze

        xumrob?

    43. Quantumese Boy

Not one prominent Ukrainian politician has the reputation of real achievements, unlike Saakasvili. He may be controversial, but he is probably Ukraine's best hope. Poroshenko is a horrible slime. What are the alternatives? Timoshenko? Poroshenko? Lyashko? What? The craziest thing is that Timoshenko still gets quite a bit of support. Saakasvili started the war with RF??? :)) Just like Finland did in 1939.

      1. Raymon Kravchenko

Truth to the core!!! Agree totally

      2. Dron008

Do you know at least a single achievement of Saakashvili during his work in Ukraine? Just one.

      3. Quantumese Boy

        How so?

      4. YuWolfus Without-any-boss sheep

Is Saakashili better than Timoshenko? It all amounts to the same thing...

    44. Valerii Los

Shitty interviewer. If you invite a person, let him talk, not some journalist.

    45. Temuka მოsulishvili

Do any of you think saakashvili deserves to finish his sentences? He took a local channel by storm when he didn't like what they were reporting, he killed people who opposed him, his appointed ministers that killed people just for fun, i can continue for hours on end about what horrible things the guy has done. As a georgian i can guarantee that most of what this journalist is saying is the truth, people lived through the reign of this pig. Come to Georgia and let the people tell you what they think of our X president, saakashvili isn't a good guy who the media is trying to paint in different colours saakashvili is a murderer, a war criminal responsible for deaths of so many innocent. Yes he did build roads and fancy buildings and yes he helped out the country alot but for fucks sake people so did hitler and so did Stalin.

      1. Temuka მოsulishvili

        Opinions differ but mostly no

      2. David Bek

Yes, Saakashvili is not an angel... Do the Georgians like the former president Gamsahurdia?

    46. Pigra international

Tim has demonstrated VERY LOW LEVEL of professionalism and awareness of the subject! It seems he gathers his information and knowledge from russian propaganda. SHAME ON YOU TIM! You are disgrace!

      1. tenellifranco

        Agree 100%

      2. David Apkhaidze

Pigra International listen my friend, I don’t have much time and interest debating with you about the economy, statistics and facts, yet more the main point was not the progress that happened in that period of time in Georgia, but in cost of what it happened! I don’t know how reading and understanding of topics will help you when you are jailed for openly protesting your government and get raped in jail. WE Georgians saw this all, our brothers and sisters died because of this monster! I guess you are one of those hitler ideology fan, who thinks that death of FEW is acceptable for big progress!

      3. Pigra international

Listen my friend, I call things and events as they are, I'm not here to give you complements or criticize you. I don't really care, however, I don't accept when Black is cold White and vise-versa. If you want to speculate on the subject please study it first. I have no degree in physics that's why I do not argue on the subject of quantum theories. If you wish to discuss Saakashvili legacy you need to have steady knowledge in economics, international affairs and most of all History. And believe me, many questions of yours will be answered by yourself during studies.

      4. David Apkhaidze

Pigra International as no slaves we Georgians are is that very fact that we get rid of governments and presidents every time they go beyond their legal powers and starting to be dictators. And be polite in discussion please.

      5. Pigra international

of course) Whom to blame? Anyone but me) This is slave- type of thinking which was imposed by russian domination for ages. That we (the people) decide nothing, we just wait until someone (king, tzar, the country etc) will give us. And similarly, whom to blame? - everyone but me. That is how slaves think and act.

    47. Максим Устяк

50 thousands? LOL. Not more 5.

    48. Alan Tarantino

      Bravo Mikhail !

    49. Evaldas Jocys

Interviewer pulls answers and motives out of his ass before Saakashvili even can answer the question. Also, interviewer seems to know every sentence everyone said or not said in their life. Saakashvili could be more direct and ask to show some evidence too. Of course journalist is doing his job and Saakashvili just need to learn from mistakes and be better at answering questions and dominate discussion.

      1. Tigran Galstyan

Saakashvili didn't answer any of those question, hi just tried to speak about his "achievements", i think cause of that TIm didn't let him to continue

    50. Ростислав Ростислав

Did he make such an intense interview with Putin? ))

      1. Raymon Kravchenko

He wouldn't dare to. This yellow-belly would cuddle before Putin like a tame poodle doggie. Unlike Michael Saakashvili who always holds his head high, never bows it before tyrants and eyesore profiteers, and walks and talks and conducts affairs with prowess, bravery, truth and highly qualified dignity and conscientious care of Democracy and human values

      2. Dennis Foster

Even more if he would come. But he won't come because he is an absolute coward

    51. Inessa Amosova

Who is Tim Sebastian and who he's representing ? He ask the questions and don't let Saakashvili to answer them, he constantly interrupting. What is the hidden goal of this questioning ? It doesn't sound like normal interview. It sound more like accusations.

      1. W V

its not a normal interview its conflict zone , the whole concept is to ask the toughest and most uncomfortable questions (even unfair). The whole idea is a 'trial by fire' its fun to watch because the questions asked are never asked somewhere else. Hughe respect for Saakashvili for participating.

      2. Taner Kanbir

Inessa Amosova yes He is really a terrible journalist! Idiot

      3. Raymon Kravchenko

Another word of a sober, sensible and reasonable man! Totally agreeing with you, mate

      4. Raymon Kravchenko

        Exactly!!!!

      5. Ульяна

Big MONEY plays its role! I don't think Tim is honest and not bribed in this case.

    52. Take no prisoners

Second term of Saakashvili is full of mistakes and hopefully he realizes it and don’t do same mistakes twice

    53. Take no prisoners

Saakashvili is very controversial person, he committed many mistakes in Georgia, which many views as crime... I still think his role in Georgian democracy and eliminating corruption is outweighing his bad deeds. So before you point finger at him, first point a finger on your own president

      1. Larysa Perry

You are very mistaken! Georgia was one of the most criminal countries of the USSR. When Saakashvili ousted crime from the country - thieves in law settled in those countries where it was safe for criminals - this is in Ukraine, in Russia, in Europe. Europe does not think about how many corpses on the money that the crime brought with them. Saakashvili was born early for this planet.

      2. David Donadze

wow nicely said mate. 100% agree with you.

    54. Sid Gillespie

I hope he is going to be our Prime Minister and all the major Ukrainian politicians of nowadays rot in prison. Also, the host is biased. Not even letting Saakashvili end his sentences.

      1. Raymon Kravchenko

I hope in a different outcome, resulting this man of dignity Mr. Saakashvili become a Ukrainian PM at long last!

      2. Raymon Kravchenko

        Agree in full. Sure thing

      3. YuWolfus Without-any-boss sheep

I am from Ukraine and emphatically against that chevalier of fortune...

      4. Sid Gillespie

Your comment doesn't make any sense.

    55. GiGa Dжусер

      Saakashvili manipulator and liar

      1. Larysa Perry

You need to move to Georgia at that time so that you understand the essence of life at that time in Georgia. There were so many gangsters! The country was so impoverished that people survived with difficulty. The criminals killed so much that you have no idea about banditry in Georgia. To call a person a liar who cleared the most criminal country of the USSR from crime and made the safest country in the world - what a misunderstanding of what is happening outside your country.

      2. David Bek

What did your Poroshenko for his people? Nothing good!

      3. David Bek

You're just blind and bias Ukrainian and can't see the truth about yours leaders

      4. David Bek

        You're correct!

      5. Dron008

I agree. He just needs conflicts for living. He is destructive. And I am from Odessa so I know what he did (nothing).

    56. Yevgeniy Bryukhov

What an extremely bias host! Let him (Saakashvili) finish a word, you boor!

      1. Taner Kanbir

Yevgeniy Bryukhov Narsisim, idiot jormializm and he gets away with it

    57. Kub

think of Saakasvili what you want, but what a Terrible host. this could be a great format, i am all for more direct interviews like this but fuck, let the man finish ONE sentence. this is turing into US style debates
